During this tour we will learn the origins of this genre of music so familiar to us and made popular by movies and shows, but which has its roots in African-American churches and which has deep religious ties.
We will attend a church mass and experience the Gospel choir that will bring us closer to the history of these people and also of the neighborhood itself.
After the mass we will take a walk in the most residential part of Harlem learning about the history of this African-American neighborhood so iconic in the Jazz Age. Passing by City College, Alexander Hamilton’s House, Strivers Row etc. we will end up in the more lively area and we will finish our tour at the iconic Apollo Theater on 125th Street.
After the tour you will have the chance to stop for lunch to taste the typical Soul cuisine of the famous restaurants Sylvia’s or Red Rooster.
Important: During this tour we will attend a gospel mass inside a church. Even if the music is wonderful and it will seem like we are at a concert, we must remember that we are in a religious place where other people are there to pray. Respect is therefore required for the entire duration of the mass (usually an hour and a half).
This is a 4 hours tour.
